One of the things I can’t listen to anymore is the idea that a program either A.) cares about winning, or B.) cares about player development.
I’m here to say that it’s okay to care about both.
Somewhere along the way, especially in youth travel baseball, this false choice was created. If you try to win, you are labeled as short-sighted. If you focus on development, you’re expected to treat games like they don’t matter.
That’s not just wrong, it’s harmful to players.
