WORCESTER, Mass. — For the fourth time in program history, Middleboro is the state champion.
The No. 3 Sachems outlasted No. 5 Apponequet for a 2-1 win and their first title since 2015 at Polar Park on Saturday.
Shannon Sylvia earned the win on the mound for Middleboro (23-4), tossing 1⅔ shutout innings in relief of Jacob Landers, who struck out four and gave up one unearned run on four hits and a walk across 3⅓ innings. EJ Wanke earned the save and had two RBIs.
Ryan Levesque started for the Lakers (20-5), surrendering two earned runs on three hits and four walks with four Ks over 2⅓ innings. Peter Kanakis threw 3⅔ no-hit innings with seven strikeouts and a walk. Bryce Figueroa drove in Apponequet's lone run.
