Andrew Dickson was confident that he could revive the Choate Rosemary Hall baseball program upon his arrival in 2023.
Choate had lain dormant for several years, often finding itself toward the bottom of the standings of the ultra-competitive Founders League. The program's glory years, spearheaded by former legendary Wild Boar coaches Tom Yankus and Russell Ayers, were a long way off.
Before he came to the elite Wallingford, Conn., school, Dickson had already coached at the college level, serving as an assistant at Indiana University Southeast, Lafayette College, Northwestern University, and Yale University.
"When I left Yale four years ago, I wasn't sure I could have imagined how much I would enjoy building this program here at Choate,'' said Dickson. "When I stepped away from college coaching, I was looking for the opportunity to once again be a head coach and make a meaningful impact on players. From the first time I set foot on Choate's campus, I remember thinking it was nicer than some of the colleges I'd visited, and I became excited about the opportunity to help players achieve their individual goals of playing at the next level.''
