Former Cheshire Academy head coach Anthony Giano has landed a position on the Avon Old Farms staff for the 2026-27 school year. A coach with MVP New England's summer travel ball program, Giano will be an advocate for Avon Old Farms in the community.
Giano and former Cheshire assistant Pete Katynski were relieved of their positions in April after instances of underage drinking among Cheshire Academy players during the team’s spring trip to Orlando, Fla. Giano reported the instances to the administration, and some players left the trip early as punishment.
Giano helped build Cheshire Academy into one of the top prep baseball programs in New England, producing more than 50 eventual college players from 2021 to 2025. He served as an assistant under former head coach David Dykeman until 2021, when he took over as head coach. After going 8-8 in his first season in 2022, he built Cheshire into a perennial Western New England Prep Baseball League Tournament championship contender. His teams won WNEPBL Cleary Division titles in 2024 and 2025.
"Anthony is a really well-known guy around Connecticut, and I always try to play to people's strengths," Avon Old Farms coach Rob Dowling said. "I understand what he does well, and I plan to put him in a position to do that regularly."
