For the first time, the New Britain Bees are on top of the Futures League.
After edging past the in-state rival and three-time defending champion Norwich Sea Unicorns to begin the postseason, the Bees defeated the top-seeded Vermont Lake Monsters in a second consecutive three-game series to win it all.
The Bees dominated the final series to the tune of a 22-1 combined score, bookending it with 11-0 road victories -- clinching the franchise’s first-ever crown on August 16 -- while taking their only loss in a 1-0 home decision in game two.
The ultimate game saw ace Garret Garbinski (UConn/Clinton, Conn.) pitch seven shutout innings with seven strikeouts, bringing New Britain to the brink of victory. Offensively, left fielder Owen Rich (Binghamton/Wallingford, Conn.) went 5-for-5 and designated hitter Tim Hennig (Binghamton) hit his second homer of the series.
