Two New England high school prospects earned Day 1 selections in the 2026 MLB Draft on Saturday.
Chester, Vt., native Kaiden McCarthy became the highest high school draft pick in Vermont history, earning a selection by the Atlanta Braves in the second round, 48th overall. Raynham, Mass., native Brody Bumila, who was projected as a first-round pick before a recent MRI revealed damage to the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his pitching elbow, was taken by the Texas Rangers in the third round, 89th overall.
Both players are expected to sign pro deals, forgoing their college plans. McCarthy was committed to Tennessee, Bumila to Texas.
The MLB slot value for McCarthy's draft slot at No. 48 is $2.08 million. The value for Bumila's slot at 89th is $900,800.
