Salisbury School recently named former college assistant coach Tyler Kavanaugh the new head baseball coach. Kavanaugh takes over for interim coach James Simboli, who stepped in to replace Kevin Huber after the legendary coach's sudden death in December.
Born and raised in Greenwich, Conn., Kavanaugh has put forth a solid track record, most recently as associate head coach/recruiting coordinator at George Washington University. Kavanaugh played in the NEPSAC at St. Luke's School in the early 2000s before becoming a four-year starting catcher at Kenyon College.
Upon graduating from Kenyon, Kavanaugh fulfilled his ambition of becoming a baseball coach. He began his tenure at SUNY-Purchase before being named hitting coach/recruiting coordinator at DeSales University. He later held similar roles at Sacred Heart University, Marist College, and Hofstra University. In 2017, Kavanaugh was named pitching coach at Stony Brook University, spending five years at the school. In 2021, Kavanaugh accepted the job at George Washington University, a position he held until this past spring.
Looking to be in charge of his own program, Kavanaugh accepted a position as head coach, program director, and school admissions officer at Salisbury School, effective July 1.
