Brody Bumila is counting down the days to his youth.
“I have 20 days left of being a kid,” Bumila said in late June. “I know I’m leaving.”
Bumila doesn’t say it in a sad or longing way, more matter of fact. The 20-day countdown is to the 2026 MLB Draft, when New England’s top draft prospect is likely to earn a selection in the first round.
So, yes, Bumila will likely never experience the prototypical college experience like his friends and former teammates. And, yes, he’ll likely start his professional career at the age of 18 instead of juggling summer jobs like his peers.
