WORCESTER, Mass. — Catholic Memorial is no stranger to some big innings.
The No. 5 Knights, who hung 11 runs on No. 4 St. John's Shrewsbury over a two-inning span en route to a quarterfinal upset, recaptured the magic against No. 2 Bishop Feehan in the MIAA Division 1 final.
Down a pair of runs in the top of the fifth, CM exploded for 11 runs to take a commanding 13-4 lead. Estiben Cruz-Pina, Richie Curran, Kevin Mills and Timmy Mills powered the surge as each came through with two-RBI knocks. All of it came with two outs.
The Knights never looked back en route to the upset win and their first state title in 53 years. It was also their first championship appearance since the 1973 win over St. Peter's.
Here are eight standouts from the game.
