Hawk Stickney's decision to attend The Governor's Academy as a freshman has led to a commitment to play baseball at the United States Naval Academy.
"I have loved my time here,'' said Stickney. "Overall, it is an incredible environment both academically and athletically. The people here are all like-minded, with academics and athletics being high priorities for everyone. You come here, and people want you to do well. Everyone looks out for each other, whether it is just letting them know how a teacher is in class or sitting down with a classmate and helping them finish their homework.''
A Byfield, Mass., product, Stickney is one of the elite hurlers in the ISL. His pitching repertoire includes a fastball, slider, cutter, and splitter. His fastball topped out at 92 mph this summer.
"I throw my cutter and fastball just about the same amount, but I am comfortable throwing any pitch in any count,'' Stickney said. "I think developing this arsenal with my pitching coach (Carson Cross) has really tuned these pitches in, and with the help of (Govs coach) James Baker, I took my cutter from an okay pitch to a pitch that I will throw anytime.''
