When the prep and high school season draws to a complete close around New England over the next few weeks, some of the top talents will not be slowing down. In fact, they’ll be making an early step up.
Many familiar names from around the region will be spending their summers in the Futures League, which is the lone New England summer collegiate circuit that allows the next year’s wave of college freshmen to compete before officially beginning their college careers in the fall.
Each of the Futures League’s six teams will have representation from graduating New England high schoolers getting set for the next level, with nearly all of them holding Division 1 commitments.
The league’s 15th summer season begins on Wednesday morning. With the prep season already completed, many of those rising players will join their respective teams before high school teams play their state tournaments.
