The New England Baseball Journal staff has re-ranked the top prep and high school prospects by class for the first time since starting our "Best of New England" series in January.
We will start with the Class of 2027. Over the next two weeks, we will continue with '28, '29, and '30 graduates.
College recruiters — and to a lesser degree, pro scouts — have helped set the market value for these players by extending invitations to premier showcase events and offers to join college programs. The NEBJ staff will now attempt to sort through those commitments, offers, and our own evaluations to rank the top 50 players in the Class of 2027.
We understand that a prospect's perceived value will vary among college recruiters, based on that particular program's needs. For instance, a pitcher might have less value for a pitching-rich college staff that struggled to score runs last season. We rank our top 50 as if the entire Class of 2027 is entering a draft, and we are assembling a team from scratch.
