It's not a great time to be one of New England Baseball Journal's preseason favorites.
When we released our "Way Too Early Prep Power Rankings" back in January, we ranked Dexter Southfield No. 1 and Avon Old Farms No. 2. Both schools have rosters loaded with college commits, many of whom will play at the D1 level.
But both Dexter and Avon Old Farms have struggled through the end of April. Dexter nearly dropped out of the rankings this week after posting a 1-3 record last week. Avon Old Farms is out of the top 10 for the second week in a row, now in the midst of a 3-4 stretch over its last seven games.
That means 10 other teams are outperforming the two New England prep favorites. Here's the way we rank them in the final power rankings of April.
