Brody Bumila's stock took a significant hit on Monday when his advisor shared with MLB team officials the results of an MRI showing damage to the pitcher's ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his left elbow.
The news was first reported by ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel.
Bumila missed the entire 2025 season due to an injury to his left elbow, which required internal brace surgery. He returned to a mound in September of 2025, throwing at 50 percent effort. The Bishop Feehan senior finally took the mound for a game on April 2, becoming a viral social media sensation while repeatedly clocking a 100-mph fastball in just 20 pitches.
Bumila went on to earn MIAA Player of the Year and Gatorade State Player of the Year. He rose to No. 19 on MLB.com's list of the top 100 prospects. The 19th overall selection is slotted for a signing bonus north of $4.5 million.
The 2026 MLB Draft is scheduled for Saturday, July 11, and Sunday, July 12, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia. Only two other New England high school prospects – Thomas White (2023) and Frank Mozzicato (2021) – earned first-round selections in the MLB Draft in the last decade.
