Thayer Academy has been a middle-of-the-pack squad in the ISL in recent seasons, a bit short of the standard for a program that has won eight league titles since 1977.
Thayer alumus James Pierce (Class of '03) took over the Tigers' head post after Massachusetts Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame coach Rick Forestiere left after the 2022 season. Pierce served as an assistant coach in the program prior to taking the head job.
A standout player in his own right, Pierce is now steadily working to build the program back to prominence. Like most things, it is a work in progress as Pierce continues to add key pieces to his roster.
One of those pieces includes senior left-handed pitcher Quinn Ognibene. A Cohasset, Mass., native, Ognibene stands 5-foot-9 and 180 pounds. Ognibene tossed 14 innings, posting 20 strikeouts and a 3.75 ERA.
