When Jack Funk played for the 14U US9 Prospect baseball program, his father, Paul, served as one of his coaches.
Back in April of 2023, during a game at Duxbury's Chandler Field, Paul suffered a fatal heart attack. The overwhelming surge of emotions from that horrible day will forever live with Jack and his family.
With time, Funk has learned to persevere through the pain and sorrow. Funk transferred to Thayer Academy from Duxbury High last fall, reclassifying as a sophomore. In his first season at the NEPSAC school, Funk was a two-sport contributor as a second baseman in baseball and forward in hockey.
Yet, not a day goes by when Funk does not think about his father.
