BOSTON — In a key early-season showdown between two Catholic Conference powers, BC High reigned supreme.
The No. 5 Eagles (5-1) held on for a 7-5 win over No. 8 Catholic Memorial (3-1), behind a multi-hit day for senior catcher Luis Gonzales (Milton, Mass.) and two RBIs from junior infielder Ben Peruzzi (Plymouth, Mass.).
Sophomore pitcher Matt Duffy (Milton, Mass.) earned the save, striking out five and giving up two earned runs on two hits in 2⅔ innings of work. Sophomore pitcher Anthony Dufour (Randolph, Mass.) earned the win, giving up three earned runs as he worked around eight hits and two walks in 4⅓ innings.
Five different players drove in runs for the Knights, including senior outfielder Rocky Vankoski (Brookline, Mass.) and junior infielder Kyle Bongette (Walpole, Mass.), who had two hits apiece. Junior Liam McKinney (Milton, Mass.) got the start, striking out five and scattering five earned runs on six hits and two walks across 5⅓ innings.
