SHREWSBURY, Mass. — St. John's Prep got the bats going early against No. 1 St. John's Shrewsbury on Wednesday, and the Eagles never looked back as they rolled to a 6-3 Catholic Conference win.
Junior right-hander Collin Thornburgh (Danvers, Mass.) earned the win for the Prep (3-1-0), striking out eight and surrendering just two earned runs on five hits and four walks over 6⅔ innings. Junior leftfielder Brendan Kobierski (Peabody, Mass.) drove in four on a 2-for-3 day with a double. Senior centerfielder Brady Baldassare (Danvers, Mass.) also had a double in a two-hit day. Senior pitcher Jeremiah Ramirez (Amesbury, Mass.) picked up the save.
For SJS (1-2), senior shortstop Gabe Terlato (Sterling, Mass.) went 2-for-4 with a triple, a run and an RBI. Andrew DeHoratius (Worcester, Mass.) also drove in a run. Senior pitcher Brady Chenevert (Shrewsbury, Mass.) got the start, allowing three earned runs on four hits with three strikeouts across two innings.
