The Division 1A/Super 8 tournament could return to Massachusetts as early as the spring of 2027, if the MIAA tournament management committee approves the proposal on Jan. 20.
The MIAA baseball committee voted on Jan. 13 to approve an "All-State" tournament by a count of 14-1. The MIAA suspended the popular Division 1A/Super 8 tournament for four years in April of 2021, as the MIAA Tournament Management Committee gathered data to ensure equity.
Several prominent coaches, including Walpole High coach Chris Costello and Braintree High coach Bill O’Connell have advocated for bringing back the Super 8 tournament on The Base Path Podcast.
"The MIAA should really reconsider bringing that tournament back because it was the most elite tournament I've ever been involved in," Costello said.
