2026 FAA preview: Projected relief pitchers for each program

Leading into the spring season, New England Baseball Journal will preview the prep baseball landscape with our annual position-by-position breakdowns. We will have posts for each position organized by conference.

The first position group in our series is projected relief pitchers. NEBJ shares commentary from the players’ respective coaches, class year, and college commitments.

Earlier this fall, we previewed the Fairchester Athletic Association’s impact transfers heading into the 2026 season.

Tyrus Ostrowski ’27

College commitment: Brown University

“Ty has taken the role of our closer and go-to guy out of the bullpen, as he is a very confident presence on the mound,” said Bruins coach Connor Redahan. “He isn’t afraid to challenge hitters with his full arsenal of pitches. We are excited to see him take the mound again this spring.”

Hamden Hall

Amato Civitello ’26

College commitment: UConn

“Amato will return to the closer role for the 2026 season, where he was so valuable his sophomore year,” said Hornets coach Brad Chernovetz. “After becoming a conference starter last year, Amato will be able to become that lockdown closer again. It is a huge benefit to have a kid like Amato who can come into any game and get you six outs.”

Rocco DeMaio III ’26

College commitment: Trinity College

“Rocco is a hard-throwing righty closer for us,” Hilltoppers coach Rocco DeMaio said. “He will be counted on to come from shortstop to finish close games. Rocco earned his third Perfect Game MVP award this summer for the CT Grind at the PG 17U WWBA New England Championship and topped out at 86 mph this fall for Pitcher’s Only, earning him All-Tournament honors at the PG 18U WWBA Fall National Championship. He will be a captain this season.”
