Will Haggerty will be the New England's No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2027 when the recruiting window opens for college coaches on Aug. 1.
The Rumford, R.I., native assured himself of that this week when he earned a spot on USA Baseball's roster for the 2025 16U/17U National Team Development Program (NTDP). Haggerty, a rising junior at Moses Brown School (Providence, R.I.), is the lone New England prospect in either the Class of 2026 or Class of 2027 to earn a selection.
"I really only started to think this was a possibility this year," said Haggerty, whose fastball sits in the 90- to 93-mph range. "My velocity went up with all three pitches. My changeup became a pitch I can throw at any time to get guys out. I've come a long way this season."
Haggerty credited the uptick in velocity to his work in the weight room during the offseason. At 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds, he doesn't have the size that would inspire pro scouts to argue for his MLB Draft selection out of high school. But in what can only be described as a nice fall-back option, he should have his pick of SEC or ACC schools.
