The St. Louis Cardinals made Liam Doyle the highest-drafted New Hampshire prospect since Carlton Fisk on Sunday evening, selecting the Derry, N.H., native fifth overall in the first round of the 2025 MLB Draft.
Eventual Baseball Hall of Famer Fisk, a Charlestown, N.H., native, was the fourth overall selection of the 1967 MLB Draft by the Boston Red Sox. No other New Hampshire prospect has been a top-five selection in the last 58 years.
Doyle had a standout high school career at Pinkerton Academy, leading his team to a state championship in 2022 -- Pinkerton's first title since 1986. Doyle struck out 15 batters in the state championship game against Londonderry.
Doyle was also the New Hampshire D1 Pitcher of the Year as a junior in 2021, although he did not commit to a D1 offer until October of his senior year, shortly after he pitched three shutout innings at the WWBA World Championships in Jupiter, Fla.
