The MIAA tournament rolls on. Whether in Division 1 or Division 5, there has been plenty of excitement throughout the playoffs, be it the preliminary round, the first round, or now the Round of 16.
We’ve seen more than our fair share of upsets, too. The No. 1 seed in Division 1, Taunton, went down in the Round of 32. No. 3 Bishop Feehan, No. 5 Xaverian and No. 6 Andover each lost in the D1 Round of 16. There will also be a new champion in Division 1 after No. 2 St. John's Shrewsbury defeated No. 15 BC High in the Round of 16 in a rematch of last year's title game.
In Division 2, No. 8 Duxbury fell to No. 25 Bristol-Plymouth in the Round of 32, as did No. 12 Algonquin against No. 21 Woburn and No. 11 Milton to No. 22 Melrose. No. 3 North Attleboro lost to No. 14 Milford in the Round of 16. No. 1 Plymouth North continues its title defense.
St. Mary's, the top seed in D3, fell in the Round of 16. No. 4 Shawsheen lost to No. 13 Wakefield in the Round of 16. No. 27 Tewksbury made a run to the Round of 16, taking down No. 6 Auburn along the way in the Round of 32. Division 3 will see a new champ for the first time in two years as No. 32 Oakmont lost to No. 2 Norwell in the Round of 32.
Division 4 will crown a new champ as well after No. 6 Seekonk fell to No. 11 Dennis-Yarmouth in the Round of 16. In D5, English High continues its title defense.
Through all of the upsets, comebacks and heroics, there have been plenty of standout performances. As the Round of 8 looms, let's look back on some peak performers from the first three rounds.
