Just as the regular college season comes to a close, the start of summer collegiate action around New England arrives. To kick it all off, Wednesday marks the opening of the Futures League’s 15th season.
The Norwich Sea Unicorns enter 2025 as the back-to-back defending champions, having defeated the Westfield Starfires in the title series last August. Coincidentally, those two teams will go head-to-head in Westfield, Mass., in one of three season-opening games. Another morning start on Wednesday pits the Worcester Bravehearts against the host Nashua Silver Knights, while the New Britain Bees welcome the Vermont Lake Monsters for an evening affair.
As is typical in the summer landscape, rosters change regularly early in the season as college programs at all NCAA levels finish their conference and regional tournaments, and high school players complete their seasons. Thus, not all players will be on their respective teams from the start.
Also of note, the Futures League allows for the inclusion of rising freshmen, meaning that many stars from New England prep and high schools will get an early taste of college play throughout this summer. Any risers from outside of our region are denoted with an asterisk.
