Kevin Graber is back at Phillips Andover, and he explained why on the latest edition of The Base Path Podcast.
One of the most accomplished coaches in the history of New England prep baseball, Graber returned to Andover in August to resume his previous roles on-campus (Senior Associate Director of Admissions, residence hall director, academic advisor, teacher, head baseball coach). Graber spent the last previous years in the Chicago Cubs organization as a field manager at the Double-A level, among other roles.
"I was homesick, to be quite honest with you," Graber said. "I didn't miss the baseball part of it as much because I was getting plenty of baseball in professional baseball. What I missed was the simple stuff, like academic advising. I missed running a dorm and living on campus. I miss being around these incredible students. I miss being in the classroom. I miss going to basketball games, pep rallies, and chaperoning events on weekends. I missed the community.
"I have a ton of friends here. And when it came down to it, my family and I stepped back. We could have kept going with Chicago Cubs in professional baseball, but we wanted to evaluate where we feel the most fulfilled. Where can we do the most good? And we ended up back here."
