The number of high school prospects who get selected in the MLB Draft has declined since 2020 for various reasons.
The MLB Draft has decreased its number of rounds from 20 to 10. NIL deals have made it more enticing for high school prospects to go to college — and get paid to play. High school players also have more leverage to negotiate for signing bonuses, so pro teams select college players who are willing to sign for less.
Still, seven New England high school prospects entered the spring as strong candidates to be considered for the 2026 MLB Draft. The 2026 draft begins July 11 in Philadelphia as part of MLB’s All-Star Week festivities.
Here is a look at how each of New England's high school/prep prospects has performed this spring.
