Believe it or not, summer collegiate baseball in New England is back for another season.
The Futures League is lifting the lid on its 16th summer on Wednesday, with the Norwich Sea Unicorns entering as back-to-back-to-back champions.
While Norwich is off until Thursday, the league’s six other teams will be in action on Opening Day. Two morning contests feature the Nashua Silver Knights hosting the Vermont Lake Monsters and the Worcester Bravehearts traveling to the Westfield Starfires. In the evening, the Lowell Spinners make their Futures League debut at the New Britain Bees.
As is typical in summer ball, rosters are especially fluid early in the season while college programs at all NCAA levels finish their conference and regional tournaments, and high school seasons are completed. Thus, not all players will be on their respective teams from the start.
